For Task 6, I think... I picked the character Harlequino, Harlequino is an overall playful, childish and self entertaining being, he goes around the environment using a variety of different levels, low, medium and even high. By that you can already understand that this person is a very hyper personality, therefore he jumps, lies down and stands normally. He does all three but simultaneously therefore he is a very excited person. His overall personality in terms of social status, from my research is nice but his physical posture is always hyper. The more stereotypical part of their body is the hips, also the most visible in the performance, they are open throughout, in order to center the energy into one single part of the body, you need to perform in a single posture, where all the focus and tension is towards your body part, this is possible with the hips. When you are bent or slightly crouched all of your body's tension goes towards your hips, since you are not straight, and one part of your body is straight (top) and another part is bent (Bottom) the hip needs to connect both parts together, therefore there is automatic tension there.
I very constantly thought of interacting with the environment, since Harlequino is a personality who likes to utilize the space around him, otherwise the environment. I tried to use as much space as possible, otherwise jump and move around constantly, in result to that I was interacting with the environment around me. We were not allowed props therefore, however I did use a herald technique with my peer Afraz, Since Harlequino is such a curious person, he has to be interested in simple things, or in this case Afraz's laptop, therefore I went according to his character, bent down and peered at his screen in amazement (Probably some more facial expressions), it was interacting with my audience, and also his laptop as a type of prop.
From the audience and Ms. Kimi, I got a lot of comments about facial expressions, but the overall performance was good. Everyone wanted more facial expressions throughout, which I strictly agree with since I know that I am weaker in terms of facial expressions. I was told to apply levels into my performance, which I will consider in future rehearses or performances.
For the next performance I chose to change the following and add to my performance:
- MORE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS
- USE MORE LEVELS
- POSSIBLE ASK A PERSON FROM THE AUDIENCE TO INTERACT WITH, IN TERMS OF HARLEQUINO, DANCE
- POSSIBLY CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT AROUND ME
- INTERACTIONS.
As of the overall class today in drama, I loved rehearsing and the EPIC group performance, Prabhanu, Jack, Afraz and I had. While rehearsing we also interacted with each other (which we were told not to)... But overall this was a great class, not much activities, since the activities done in class are a bit low for the last few weeks, I would recommend that ms. Kimi, maybe bring back the warm-ups (which were awesome) and possible some practical drama exercises which will after all teach us a few skills to aid us in the comedia performances. I enjoyed today's class as always, and I would recommend a few more activities, which would make the class even better.
For another peer evaluation I picked Minnie, who acted out the doctor (which was pretty entertaining).
The doctor is described as an open, dishonest person. Arrogant and very smart (in his ways), the situation is always when the doctor attempts to be smart but in return gets tripped by his own words. The strongest body part is the tummy which can be centered by basically standing, leaning backwards with the tummy as the center of attention, in this case the tummy comes before the person. Minnie's performance was well planned out, although there were a few situations where us, the audience did not know what to interpret of her actions. But the overall performance matched the character and I would recommend using more levels, and possible more interactions as we mentioned in class. Overall a very enjoyable performance and one of the best today!
