Consumer Rights!

Consumer World!
Our world is dominated by brands, simply names given to things which have no value, once its been given that 'name' it becomes one of the best selling, ground breaking products ever invented. Our world utilizes this concept as an opportunity  to globalize, expand and simply modernization. People who do not have that opportunity, or the privileged to money do not acquire this branded product.

As of my age, and speaking from the perspective of a teenager, I can respectively state that this concept has captivated our generation, imprisoning us to the bounds of new products, newer features and 'brands'. Personally I have experienced this captivity while purchasing one of my first apple devices. I first off bought the iPod touch 4g and used it for about 4 or 5 months, I did not have any complaints with this purchase and was very thankful, since it was my first iPod. After that period of time apple released their newer generation of the iPod, and of course  I HAD to purchase it. I stopped paying attention to the older version and simply threw it away (metaphorically).

That is just an example though, we are yet dominated by this concept. Every year they release a newer technology, a newer piece of cloth or even a newer piece of furniture and e.t.c, not only apple but any other profitable businesses, it cannot stop because if it does we will be forced to use on generation of that technology and avoid any developments, and if they keep releasing these features every year, we would have to purchase one by that period of time, it is like a race between our community, a race for who can be the 'modern' one the fastest.

Comedia D'ell Arte Mask Activity, Thoughts, Masks and Justifications

My thoughts:

Today in class we watched a short film named identity, as meaningful as it sounds, it displays the different 'masks' people wear in order to mix in, or camouflage with the crowd and how they function. My basic thoughts on this film, first off was that it contained a few philosophies or humane principles explained in this film. There was first off the girl in the mask, second where they mentions Plato's theory and third the rules of chess relation to life.

The girl in the mask: This section of the movie, showed how many people in modern time, in attempting to fit in, and interact with other people by ignoring your personal needs and feelings. It was surprisingly very true, in what this movie tried to portray, and seemed realistic even with the masks. There were also specific parts in the movie where the population is divided into two basic groups, the males (brown) and the females (yellow), this symbolizes segregation, separation and prisoning a person's inner thoughts. This movie all across had many symbols, ideology, life related principles and philosophies. Such as the masks, they represented segregated groups of people, and how they have to follow a 'cult' in order to mix in with everyone else.

Plato's Theory: This philosophy also intertwined with the concept of masks. This theory suggests that when a person has spent their whole life in a dark cave, they see the world as a series of dark walls, until the chosen one comes and shows them the rest of the world. This theory can be compared to the girl with the mask, because they share the same concept of being imprisoned, and held captive among st a common group or area.

Chess: This part of the movie symbolizes how people are used and manipulated among st society, and how people like them use us for their own benefit.

In conclusion this movie, was a symbolic and an idealistic film. It portrayed the different principles we share with each other in order to live, in the midst of society. This movie was surprisingly very true, and made sense it its context, and its intention was clear in what it meant to symbolize, or project to their audience.

The masks I wear in different Situations:
Us as humans, and as a unique personality we all wear different types and shapes of masks, which symbolize, and identify who we are and what we do. Reflecting upon myself I can identify and affectively justify the reasons I wear these masks. As for my age, the masks worn by my peers will be surprisingly similar.

The mask I wear in every situation, is mostly peaceful, a bit talkative and mostly thinking upon history, otherwise what else happened that day, and how it could have gone differently on the course of the masks I wear. I wear (interpretation) A slightly blue and faintly green around the sides background mask, which symbolizes tension, and peace in different parts of my brain. There are images, or signs of time around the mask, signifying keeping time, and a sense of socialization when I am with other people, otherwise a crowd of people around the masks surface.

The mask I wear in a more serious, tense situation would be colored orange, the borders would be very dark red, and the part around the eyes would be dark orange, this mask would be mostly blank, since I am only focusing on one thing, and cannot do anything else at the time due to the tense situation.

The mask I wear when I am tired, or while I am playing football, contains a very light blue mask, with abstract colorization around the borders and middle of the mask, there will also be an image of water, or the sea signifying sweat, or tension. Some parts of the mask will have to be red, since they will signify or symbolize, fear, tension or other expressions related to high pressure.

Justification:

 First mask: Tension, I chose a very sharp edged, and symbolizing mask for my first mask, this mask is slightly triangular, which symbolizes an uneven, odd feeling due to the triangles odd numbers and measurements. (a bit silly), this mask has outreaching patters from the sides, which signify and overpowering force of tension invading my normal thoughts, this mask also contains an irritated expression through the eyes, which have large cast shadows beneath them, and angry wrinkles along the border of the structure. There is also illustrations of fire, and horns along the surface of the mask inspired by the mask from the movie saw, this mask also signifies a few signs of anger, sadness and tension along the mask with wrinkles and facial expressions.

Second Mask: Peace: This mask is intended to signify a time of day when I am not feeling tension, sadness or any other feelings, therefore it is a peaceful, empty and light weighted expression, By light weighted expression I mean that the mask has light colors and has less mental tension through colorization. The eyes of this mask are glass, otherwise mirrored, which signifies the fact that I am not observing outside, or irrelevant events, comments or interactions. This mask also has a few clouds around it, which again signifies the light mental tension, and peace, There is also a bird, flying through the mask, which intends to mean freedom and signify and independent expression at this time of day. This mask has a few green patches, or what I would like to call them Burns, from past events, or moments of high tension. As it can be observed some parts are less covered meaning that this state of burning is slowly starting to fade through a free state of expressions, signified by this mask.'


Third Mask: My third mask signifies, embarrassment, sadness or a type of dismay, which is observably signified through faintly open eyes, a water fall flowing down one side of the face, and a few burns along the sides of the face (the ones I mentioned in the previous justification, This mask has two sides, one for sadness and another for slight anger, above that section of the mask, both sides meet and then further illustrates a sun rising from the sea, intending to mean that there is light in the midst of all this, otherwise the famous saying that there is always a way out. I picked this mask because it signified mostly what I think and feel in this state.

This activity, seemed to be very intentional and meaningful. After watching the movie, I saw a few ideals, principles and especially interpretations of different situations, mental situation and social interaction. This activity helped me understand this Weirdly True (- Jack Tickle) concept of the movie. It was a fun activity designing the masks, and was a learning experience, especially for this age group.

Comedia Dellarte’

Comedia dell arte is an Italian medieval concept of an improvised comedic act or theatre. This type of theatre was created in the early 16th century. This act for its time was a tradition and a preference of the community in terms of arts. Comedia dell arte scenes are very short compared to other theatre traditions, and similar to modern day sketches. This art was created in result to economic issues and governmental crisis.
Comedia dell arte is meant to be a comedic and more of an enjoyable theatre, it consisted of a few characters or actors who would be the comedic base for the act. They wore different types of funny or otherwise unusual costumes that represented the comedic aspect of the theatre performance. The basic concepts of this performance, were initially the script, the gestures and the main essence of the act… the costumes.
Majority of the Comedia dell arte pieces did have a common factor in between them were the characters effectively the costumes. They were shared across most of the theatre pieces and signified different personalities, on the basis of that time period. The cast is divided into three essential characters: The servant, the master and finally the innamorati. These characters are all portrayed through costumes, facial gestures and even masks.
This type of theatre originated in Italy in the 16th century, initially it was performed their by chosen actors. This art was later adapted to countries such as France, who liked this concept of comedic pieces of drama and the portraying of characters through aesthetical values. This art was performed by a series of trained, experienced actors who travelled in groups (troupes) in order to spread this tradition and show others their ideas and how they manage to perform these acts. This act was performed in Italian dialect by actors who portrayed three basic roles. The roles decided how they dress up, how they talk and their mask. This art has a lot of features which make it what it is as a unique and unusual comedic theatre.
The structures of their performances were based on comedic and aesthetic values. The whole play consisted of comedic Italian Dialect scripting, Costumes which match your role the best, and finally the set. Their stage was not as refined as the ones we have today. They were small and did not portray their scenes as much. Their setup was simple, they did not have many props, but a few in order to refine the scenes to a certain extent. The props used in the theatre are mostly the costumes, and their additions. They are used to refine, and add to the character.
Comedia dell’arte created a structural base for all comedy related theatres and movies. Which now hold a massive spot in the modern theatre industry and culture. They reintroduced the concept of comedic acting and how we can portray a personality using a costume, or gestures. Using the basis of their thinking and ideals we were able to create most of today’s theatre traditions and performances. They have left a mark on our modern culture by performing their acts in a specific manner, which is preferably one of the most favourable types of theatre today.
There are a variety of different companies, or in this case Theatrical aspects, such as the movie industry. The movie industry holds one of the largest places in our favourable perspective of theatre. They have adapted to this concept of comedia, and have attempted and succeeded to include reasonably comedia into their works. They have adapted to their basic concepts except more modernized with the help of technology which was not available at the time.

Drama Blog, What I like about theater (drama)

Theater is a very general concept, but in specific about theater I like the concept of creating a scene or acting one.  I find creating scenes, or being the director in many cases very fun and helps me increase my ability to do so. When I am trying to act a scene, it is essential for the actor in which case is me, to express my opinions openly. Expressing these emotions and empathizing with the character you are assigned is key to portray this personality. While acting I also attempt to include a few hand or body gestures, this enhances the reality of the play and adds on to the character as a personality.

Other than that I like to reflect upon my work, which is really and effective way to not only remember what we did, but also call back the mistakes and even the good things that we may have done. This helps me personally to increase my personal engagement and my ability to perform specific tasks. Reflecting upon my work also helps me increase my ability to effectively describe consecutive events and my accuracy when trying to explain specific concepts of drama.

I also further like the different activities we perform in order to increase our drama skills or even for fun or pass time. These activities I think are helpful and fun at the same time, it is the perfect example of a great activity in class. I personally like the games: Circle Dash, Red ball, and Acting nothing games. These games have helped me personally and will continue to do so in the future.

There are alot of aspects in drama that I like, as I have described above. I personally try to use these games and activities to my advantage and hone my drama skills as an actor and a director.
